Patrick Asch: Projet Montréal – Équipe Bergeron

After working with cities across Montreal on grass-roots development for the past 23 years, Patrick Asch has decided to take a different approach to helping people.

“If I’m mayor, I’m going to be a full-time mayor,” he says.

His main priorities will be increasing resident involvement, improving transportation, reducing taxation and improving safety.

Resident involvement will be increased through committees, hands-on politician involvement in projects and full webcasting of council meetings.

Taxation is too high too, he says. He believes that he’ll be able to wipe out the local tax within four years of becoming mayor.

LaSalles worst problem now and in the immediate future is transportation, he says. That’s likely to get worse as the Turcot Exchange and the Champlain Bridge go under repairs. He has ideas for a tram on the old railway line through LaSalle to link the Angrignon Metro with Dorval Airport.

“Right now, LaSalle residents are boxed in,” says Asch. “We need easier ways to get into and out of the borough.”
