Vaudreuil-Dorion Mayor Guy Pilon, who ran at the head of the Parti de l’action de Vaudreuil-Dorion, has secured another mandate, easily defeating challenger Mario Tanguay with 84 per cent of votes cast.
Most of Pilon’s councillors were acclaimed, but a recount is expected in district four as Parti de l’action de Vaudreuil-Dorion hopeful Diane Morin was defeated by Celine Chartier-Sample by an 11-vote margin and 26 rejected ballots.
“Officially, we have eight of the nine council seats, which is a clear mandate from the population,” Pilon told The Suburban. “We will be able to continue what we started eight years ago.”
Pilon sees the next four years as a consolidation of previous projects such as a new water and sewage plant for the city and the eventual new hospital for the region. Regarding densification, Pilon estimated that for the new few years, development will continue near the train station.
Besides attracting new business to the area, like the recent investment of more than $1 billion from Ericsson, Pilon hopes to establish more commercial and business opportunities for the area while “still keeping taxes stable.”
