“The residents of Beaconsfield and the West Island are always so generous and this year was no exception,” said Ed Greenberg of CP. Greenberg was talking about the recent stop made by the CP Holiday Train that travels to more than 150 U.S. and Canadian communities, collecting food and money for those less fortunate.

According to Greenberg, as many as 4,000 residents were out last Tuesday, Nov. 26 as the brightly decorated Holiday Train pulled into the station. Besides the generous contribution from citizens who gave non-perishable food to Moisson Montreal, the crowd was treated to a live rock show by Canadian acts Melanie Doane and Roxanne Potvin.

“We get so much support from residents and we really appreciate all that they give for others,” said Greenberg. The Beaconsfield stop has a special meaning, as it is the kick-start of the train’s Canadian wide tour as well as the holiday season.

“Every dollar or can of food collected helps impact everyone in some way since hunger never takes a holiday and doesn’t recognize borders, social economics or communities,” Greenberg said.

For the last 14 years, the CP Holiday Train has collected more than three million pounds of food and more than seven million in donations. The Holiday Train elves have given out more than a quarter million candy canes since 1999.
