A West Island pizza parlor is taking the lead for the purchase of a wig for a loyal customer stricken with cancer.

Pointe Claire resident Danny Cloutier’s, involvement with the popular Valois eatery dates back 13 years, the first 11 as a driver and cook, and the past two years as owner. “I’ve had the pleasure of meeting hundreds of great people, thousands, maybe, and this woman’s family was one of them,” Cloutier told The Suburban.

Several weeks ago, Cloutier was approached by the brother, asking for a job to help pay for his sister’s wig.

“He explained the importance of a woman’s hair, and how it lifts their spirits in confronting this battle,” said Cloutier. The woman is off work for a six month period because of her treatment.

Spiros came up with the initiative of gift certificates, which 80 percent of its value, would be turned over to the family. “The family has spent a lot of money over the years, and now was the time that I could give back a little bit as a thank-you for their continued support,” added Cloutier.

Spiros posted the offer of gift certificates, on their Facebook page, which usually garnishes up to 700 views. The inventiveness has garnished 5,000 views and 75 shares, with publicity from other local Montreal media. “After that, we began getting straight up donations from people outside our delivery zone. We travel to your home to sell you a gift certificate, or just accept a contribution. Anything to facilitate matters,” continued Cloutier.

“I wish them well and hope everyone takes time to give Spiros a call and order a gift certificate. They will bring it to your door for you, something that is amazing to say the least. By doing so you are helping this young lady, so money doesn’t get in the way of healing,” said Pointe Claire resident, BJ Walker.

Currently, the program has reached 80 percent of its goal. The offer will run until Feb. 16. The extra money will aid in additional costs associated with treatment. The family in question spoke with The Suburban on condition of anonymity; also, on the impact of this project. Further information can be viewed at Facebook–Spiros Pizza.
