Jacques-Cartier incumbent takes 85% of votes

Almost a quarter of all eligible voters in the riding of Jacques Cartier took part in the advanced polling and more than likely voted for incumbent Geoffrey Kelley, who took 85% of all votes for a total of 30,823.
In 2012, Kelley got 73% of the vote with a total of 24,525 and 81% of voting intentions with 20,433 votes in 2008.
Kelley’s closest opponent was Coalition pour l’avenir du Québec’s Denis Deguire who earned 2,128 votes from the electorate, and Laurence Desroches of the Parti québécois, who came in third with three percent of the vote.
The mood at Kelley’s campaign headquarters was festive and a huge roar of approval swept through the crowd every time former Premier Pauline Marois’ results in a losing cause were displayed on the screen.
Kelley was noble in victory and told The Suburban that at the drop of the election writ “five weeks ago, West Islanders were nervous about a possible referendum and having a new and untested leader, Philippe Couillard.
“But the difference was that throughout the campaign, he would start the day with a concrete proposal and the idea of ‘How can I improve the lives of Quebecers?’ whereas the PQ seemed to want to divide the province,” said Kelley.
The impressive Liberal majority and the collapse of the PQ vote also “sends a message to the rest of Canada that says ‘We’re in’. This creates a great notion of stability for the province,” said Kelley.
He also added that the landslide victories of his West Island colleagues means that “West Islanders will get four-for-one in terms of service for the next four years.”
