Weight-loss medicines may also cure addiction

Weight-loss drugs Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro and Zepbound, are used by millions of people, helping them to lose weight by working in both the gut and the brain, acting on digestion, insulin and appetite and helping to quiet cravings.

The medicines are also successful in the treatment of cardiovascular disease, heart failure, sleep apnea, kidney disease—and addiction may be the next frontier.

Dr. W. Kyle Simmons, professor of pharmacology and physiology at Oklahoma State University says that “…we don’t have all the data but it’s trending in the right direction.”
