Universal vaccine to face human trials

By Murray Sherriffs

Researchers at Stanford University claim to have developed a single nasal spray vaccine that could protect against all coughs, colds, the ’flu, bacterial lung infections and allergies.

Animals tests have produced the “universal vaccine”. Human clinical trials await.

Their approach is a “radical departure” from the way that vaccines have been designed for more than 200 years.

Experts in the field say that this is “really exciting”, despite being at an early stage and could prove a “major step forward”.
