Specialists at the MUHC have developed a smartphone app, Hurtblocker, which can predict if someone is at risk of experiencing a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) knee injury. It is a very big problem for women who experience the injury seven times more than do men. The app encourages users to video themselves jumping on each leg, then uses AI to analyze knee movement and stability as they land to determine if they are predisposed. It then recommends exercises to improve agility, strength, and balance.
