Montreal police have increased visibility in areas in Jewish neighbourhoods where Hanukkah is being celebrated, following the mass murder at a Hanukkah event in Bondi Beach, in Australia. Montreal Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada says that “…the attack on a Jewish community in Australia breaks my heart. A day of great celebration and love has been turned into an act of violence and anti-Semitism. I cannot imagine the pain felt by the members of this community.”

Quebec has passed a law that imposes French-language content minimums on internet streaming services such as Spotify and Netflix, but industry groups are concerned and some are suggesting that this could be unconstitutional. The Digital Media Association, which represents the world’s largest streaming services, says that Bill 109 creates regulatory uncertainty which could disrupt the stability that music services need in order to continue delivering the choice, access, and affordability that Quebecers currently enjoy. It points to a Léger survey which found that 66 per cent of Quebec respondents believe that the government should not influence which music is available on streaming services; and that 61 per cent feel that French-language music is already easy to find on streaming services.

Maria Branyas Morera died last year aged 117 years, 168 days. Years before she passed, she had asked doctors to study her life to find out how she lived so long. Dr. Manel Esteller, head of Genetics at University of Barcelona School of Medicine spent three years analyzing her and says a mix of factors contributed to her longevity: the genes she inherited from her ancestors which protected her from many disorders and genetic variants that have never been seen before as well as a diet rich in fish, olive oil and yogurt. And she wasn’t a party girl and dit not smokes nor drink alcohol.
