Quebec’s Crown prosecutors’ office has requested a criminologist examine Sergio Yanes Preciado, who is accused of beating a man in a park in Park Extension, last Friday that may have been antisemitic.

Montreal police have added two suspected killers to the province’s most wanted list: 38-year-old Pierry Philogène; and 52-year-old Gianpietro (JP) Tiberio, in the latest step of a sweeping police investigation targeting organized crime.

The SAAQ has fired its vice-president of digital experience, Caroline Foldes-Busque, replacing her with Luc LeBlanc in a move it justifies by saying “…the vice-presidency is facing certain difficulties and opportunities and it’s necessary to bring in a manager who can deal with the challenges we are facing.”

The Canadian Coast Guard says the 180-metre bulk carrier, Federal Yamaska, has run aground in the St. Lawrence River near Montreal at Verchères. Failed engines are being cited.

The RCMP has arrested a fourth person, 34-year-old Tolga Yilmaz, in a human-smuggling operation that saw 44 people found in “horrific” conditions inside a cube truck earlier this month in Quebec, capturing him as he prepared to leave Canada at Trudeau airport.

Air Canada says talks with its flight attendants have ended, after their union refused to enter binding arbitration.

The union representing the flight attendants has given the company a 72-hour strike notice.

One heat-related death has been reported to Montreal Public Health since the extreme heat arrived last Sunday, bringing to six the number of people who have died from the heat since June.
