The mother of a three-year-old Montreal girl is now looking at a charge of criminal negligence causing bodily harm in connection with the abandonment of her 3 year old child earlier this month, that led to a 4 day search for the little one, a charge that carries a 10 year prison term.

The 34-year-old suspect learned of the new charge at her bail hearing in Valleyfield yesterday.

A publication ban has been placed on the hearing and prevents identification of the child and the mother and any evidence.

The hand-cuffed mother became visibly upset as she listened to testimony from a Surete du Quebec police officer, doubling over and breaking down audibly at the hearing that will continue today.
