At a press conference held at the Knights of Columbus in the Lachine borough Monday morning, incumbent Mayor Claude Dauphin introduced his slate of candidates for the upcoming municipal province wide election taking place Nov. 3.

Dauphin has served as mayor of the borough for the last 11 years and was elected president of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities this past June after serving as vice-president for the national agency of 2,000 members. Dauphin has also served, from 1981-1993, the post of MNA for the Marquette riding.

Joining Dauphin under the Équipe Dauphin Lachine banner will be longtime councillor Jean-François Cloutier who has served on council for the last eight years and still teaches law. Artist and educator Maja Vodanovic will be running for the Canal district councillor and has been involved with all three levels of government since 2005 to improve the potability of our drinking water.

Kymberley Simonyik will be running for council in the Fort Rolland district and has previously served as Dixie Pool board president.

“I put together this local team because I truly believe that we have to put the Lachine citizens’ interests first and foremost,” Dauphin told the assembled on Monday morning. “We are now a borough but we also have almost 350 years of history here in Lachine. The objectives over the next years will be to obtain a better share of the municipal tax revenues from the City of Montreal is to provide our citizens with better quality services that are tailored to their needs.

Lachine has experienced exceptional growth and development over the past ten years, will allow my team and I to offer better services to our population.”

Dauphin noted that over the years he has worked to ensure budget equity from the central city and through working with “the Finance Commission, where we have obtained some advantages.”

“Backed by a renewed team, Équipe Dauphin Lachine aims for continuity, stability and a vision based on progress that will insure the well-being and the quality of life for all of our citizens”, Dauphin said.

Part of Équipe Dauphin Lachine’s mandate will be to work towards the redevelopment of the eastern portion of the borough as well as making sure the Victoria train station is completed by the AMT.

Regarding the city of Montreal’s mayoral race, Dauphin and his team will not be backing a candidate until comprehensive platforms by all candidates are released.
