Back by popular demand, Laval transit authority has put its Cyclobus bike racks back on all city buses for a second year of summer cycling enjoyment.

The free service allows cyclists to put their bikes on the bus-mounted racks up to the end of October.

Société de transports de Laval implemented the program last year to promote healthy activity for Laval residents. The initiative proved a runaway success: More than 1,300 cyclists transported their bikes with them on the bus last summer.

The racks are positioned on the front of the bus and can be used by anyone over the age of 14 or accompanied by an adult. The hours of operation are from sunrise to sunset.

Following is a schedule from May 1-Oct. 31:

May 1-Aug. 17: 5 a.m.-9 p.m.;
Aug. 18-Sept. 18: 5 a.m.-8 p.m.; and

Sept. 19-Oct. 31: 6:30 a.m.-7 p.m.

How to use the bike racks

STL specified that before the bus arrives, all bike accessories (basket, water bottles, bags, baby seats or other accessories) must be removed.

When the bus arrives, the cyclist must indicate to the driver that he or she intends to use the bike rack. At that point, the cyclist will be directed to install the bike.

More information on how to use Cyclobus is available by calling the STL customer contact centre at 450-688-6520.

The Laval transit authority invites cyclists to visit its website for complete schedule information.
