Aquarelle school at 707 Marc Aur\u00e8le Fortin held its third annual Leucan Race to raise money for children with cancer. <\/p>\n

The first-grade teacher in charge of the event, Marie-Claude Leduc, set a goal of $700 for this year\u2019s race. The event brought in more than $1,100. <\/p>\n

More than 450 children, parents and grandparents competed in three heats under sunny skies, May 15. The runners traveled through the streets adjacent to the school, lined with cheering family and friends. <\/p>\n

In preparation, Leduc spoke to each grade level on the theme of cancer. <\/p>\n

Leduc hopes to add a new element to the event each year. This year, the children enjoyed music and snacks after the run as well as a medal ceremony. <\/p>\n

Twelve students from each grade received medals for first, second and third place. <\/p>\n

For 35 years, Leucan has been committed to helping cancer-stricken children and their families. In addition to its support of clinical research, the association provides services such as emotional and financial assistance, hosting and support for in hospital playrooms and an awareness program for school aged children. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
