Twenty-five found a new home, May 10, during the city\u2019s fifth annual pet adoption day. <\/p>\n

In addition, city officials reported that another families applied to adopt another 60 animals during its pet extravaganza at the Samson arena. <\/p>\n

Animal services experts also implanted identification microchips in another 92 pets on behalf of their owners. <\/p>\n

Technicians inserted the tiny chips, which they described as \u201cthe size of a grain of rice\u201d under the animals\u2019 skin. They store the address where the pet lives. In the event that the animal is found after going astray, and there is no other means to identify it, animal protection officials can retrieve the ownership information from the chip and use the information that it contains to return it to its owner. <\/p>\n

Nearly 600 people attended this year\u2019s pet adoption clinic, together with 25 exhibitors. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re very pleased to see that this event attracts so many participants,\u201d pet adoption centre founder Johanne Tass\u00e9, who helped the city organize the event said in a statement. <\/p>\n

\u201c[Microchip identification] is a safe, efficient technology because the electronic device is only activated by a specialized scanning device,\u201d she reassured. \u201cSince the service is provided for just $25, the cost is within the means of Laval citizens. <\/p>\n

According to the city, Laval residents have microchipped 209 pets since the city staged its first animal adoption clinic in 2010. <\/p>\n
