The borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro issued a press statement this past Monday, denouncing the AMT’s decision to institute paid parking in the train station parking lot beginning this Canada Day. <\/p>\n

The release noted that the borough council had been presented “with a fait accompli. The borough did not take part in the discussions and was therefore not able to give the anticipated impact of this project on its territory.”<\/p>\n

To help residents with the coming paid parking, the borough has arranged for two additional stops on the 407 bus line to be placed adjacent to the borough hall, enabling residents to use public transportation to get access to the train. <\/p>\n

“The parking lot of the Roxboro-Pierrefonds train station already is causing headaches for train users that never have a place to park and for neighborhood residents who are stuck with overflowing parking on their streets,” said Mayor Dimitrios Jim Beis via communique. <\/p>\n

The railway commuting agency designated the Roxboro-Pierrefonds train station, one of six out of more than 60 stations chosen to take part in the paid parking pilot project, estimated to last about a year. On July 1, 170 spaces representing one fifth of the total lot, will be paid parking spots, a cost of $80 every month.<\/p>\n

“Removing 170 spaces to citizens who do not want to pay, will result into more parking on the surrounding streets. There again it is citizens of Pierrefonds-Roxboro who will suffer the inconvenience caused by the AMT’s initiative,” explained the mayor.<\/p>\n
