At the borough meeting on July 2, Verdun Mayor Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Parenteau reconfirmed that the borough site on Ga\u00e9tan Laberge will be reserved for more social housing. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis will slow things down, but we know that citizens want more social housing on that public land, so we\u2019re going to try to make that happen,\u201d said Parenteau to applause from many attendees from Verdun\u2019s Citizen Action Committee (CACV).<\/p>\n

The meeting was held in a tent in Elgar Park on Nuns\u2019 Island instead of occurring in city hall.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a chance for citizens of all ages to come and meet us and these meetings in the park during summer,\u201d said Parenteau. \u201cI think you can see that it is a success,\u201d he said pointing to the packed tent and several people standing outdoors trying to listen.<\/p>\n

July\u2019s meeting was the second of three outdoor meetings the borough planned for this summer. The June 3 one took place in a tent on Nuns\u2019 Island northern point in Esplanade Park. The tent was full then too.<\/p>\n

The next meeting will be held on Sept. 2 in the borough greenhouse in Crawford Park.<\/p>\n

As usual, all the meetings are available via webcast from the borough website so that citizens who can\u2019t attend can see the decisions their borough councillors make on their behalf.
