Three weeks ago, The Suburban<\/i> profiled Hellenic Social Services of Quebec\u2019s (HSSQ) food bank, which helps to support Laval\u2019s needy, regardless of their race or creed. <\/p>\n

Now, the charity is reaching out to the community, in the hope that a generous member of the public will donate a used minivan that will permit it to deliver food where it\u2019s needed. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re looking for a minivan because, until now, it has been our volunteers who have supported the whole service by offering to move food to distribution points in their own cars,\u201d spokesman Paris Petrou told The Suburban.<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cThese are individuals with families who have needs and obligations of their own and cannot always participate weekly to provide the services,\u201d he explained. \u201cHSSQ is in need of a permanent solution, so it is looking for a donation of a used minivan for this very important service to the community.\u201d <\/p>\n

The food bank is a Greek community initiative that has operated in Chomedey for the past nine months out of the large kitchen at Holy Cross Church on Souvenir. <\/p>\n

Petrou added that since HSSQ is a charity, it might be possible to furnish a donor with a tax receipt in return for the in-kind donation.<\/p>\n

\u201cHundreds of families are in need,\u201d he reminded. \u201cThe food bank is a very important service, so it would be great if someone could offer their van.\u201d <\/p>\n
