Sweet Adelines inviting female singers to showcase their skills<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The West Island Chorus (aka The Sweet Adelines) is a 45-member a capella chorus comprised of women from all walks of life who get together for the love of song. They rehearse every Thursday to prepare for regional, national and international competitions as well as area concerts to senior homes. <\/p>\n

The Sweet Adelines are seeking new talent, women over the age of 18 who want to share their gift of song with the world. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe are holding an Open House at Sept. 4 and 11 rehearsals,\u201d Doris Di Blasio of the West Island Chorus told The Suburban.<\/i> \u201cNewcomers are invited to come out and watch us rehearse but will also be encouraged to take part in our vocal exercises.\u201d <\/p>\n

Aspirants will ultimately have to audition for musical director Tracy Larder who, since joining the chorus, \u201chas been bringing in a variety of newer music,\u201d said Di Blasio. \u201cTracy has been trying to modernize us a bit with a few more contemporary songs as we tended to do a lot of retro songs.\u201d <\/p>\n

Concerts last about one hour to 90 minutes with no musical accompaniment, just the harmonic sounds of dozens of singers at once. A recent show by the Sweet Adelines was held this summer at Pointe Claire\u2019s Stewart Hall Cultural Centre.<\/p>\n

This past April, the chorus performed in Massachusetts in a regional competition. Di Blasio said that the chorus might start working on themed performances such as music from the 1970s, a tribute to the Beatles as well as integrating African songs into their repertoire. <\/p>\n

The West Island Chorus meets every Thursday at Christ Church at 455 Church Street, in Beaurepaire. Rehearsals go from 7:30-10 p.m. For more information September\u2019s Open house rehearsals on Sept. 4 and 11, contact Leila Mina at [514] 488-1990 or go online at www.westislandchorus.com<\/a>.
