Laval Police rushed to Corbusier and Dagenais at 1:30 p.m., April 15, after a 53 ft flatbed truck struck a 69-year-old cyclist. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe woman was turning westbound onto Dagenais on a red light,\u201d Sgt. Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Jean told The Suburban.<\/i> \u201cFor some unknown reason she was looking behind her and was hit by the front of the tractor-trailer rig. She suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead by an Urgences sant\u00e9<\/i> doctor.\u201d <\/p>\n
Urgences-sant\u00e9 personnel on the scene also treated the woman\u2019s husband, also 69, and the 51-year-old truck driver for shock. <\/p>\n
\u201cInvestigators determined that there had been no negligence on the part of the truck driver,\u201d Sgt. Jean said in an interview. \u201cThe tractor-trailer had a flashing green light. There was also a pedestrian crossing light, but it was never used.\u201d <\/p>\n

Granny drowned<\/b><\/p>\nDistraught family members administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation, April 16, after a Fabreville woman discovered her mother unconscious in the in-ground pool behind their Elaine Street home. <\/p>\n
\u201cPolice were called at 2:50 p.m.,\u201d said Sgt. Jean, \u201cand Urgences sant\u00e9<\/i> transported the victim to the Cit\u00e9 de la sant\u00e9<\/i> [superhospital] where she was pronounced dead.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cInvestigators determined that she had at the time been doing yard work in the back yard and had fallen into the shallow end of the pool,\u201d he added. \u201cShe did not know how to swim and had some health problems. The fall into the pool was accidental and no foul play is suspected.\u201d <\/p>\n
Until last week\u2019s death, Laval had not suffered a drowning since a July 2013 fatality at St. Maxime Park.
