{"id":777,"date":"2014-08-20T18:17:00","date_gmt":"2014-08-20T18:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rf.podcastfixit.com\/index.php\/2014\/08\/20\/mack-trucks-relocation-to-laval-paid\/"},"modified":"2015-06-01T19:40:58","modified_gmt":"2015-06-01T19:40:58","slug":"mack-trucks-relocation-to-laval-paid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newscoverage.org\/index.php\/2014\/08\/20\/mack-trucks-relocation-to-laval-paid\/","title":{"rendered":"Mack Trucks relocation to Laval paid off handsomely"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>By Robert Frank<\/b><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thesuburban.com\/\">www.thesuburban.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>So popular is Mack Trucks\u2019 decision to move its maintenance facility from Montreal to Laval, earlier this year, that the iconic vehicle manufacturer is already investing in adding 40 per cent more capacity to its new facility. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just opened in January and we\u2019re already full,\u201d enthused Mack Laval president Mike O\u2019Connell. \u201cWe\u2019re looking to provide more service facilities by adding another seven bays.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>He told <i>The Suburban<\/i> that Laval\u2019s excellent highway network played an important role in inducing his firm to invest $4 million to relocate to \u00cele J\u00e9sus.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrucking companies make their money by the kilometres that they put on their trucks to carry goods,\u201d he said in an interview. \u201cMontreal is gridlock. If they\u2019re stuck in traffic in Montreal, then they\u2019re less productive.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore and more [trucking] companies are going off the island of Montreal and have relocated to Laval,\u201d O\u2019Connell continued. \u201cIts location and high growth potential will continue to see business migrating here, especially where we\u2019re located, just north of the bridge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He extolled the city\u2019s approach to business development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m impressed with the way that they do business,\u201d O\u2019Connell declared, \u201cOur values are safety, quality and concern for the environment, which fits well with Laval\u2019s logical, environment-friendly long-term approach to expanding its business base. So we\u2019re proud to be a part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said that his company represents both the Mack and Volvo Class 8 (heavy-duty) trucks that his parent firm builds, and services all Class 8 trucks made by other manufacturers such as Kenworth, Peterbilt, Freightliner and International.<\/p>\n<p>Customers include everyone from individual owner-operators to huge fleet owners like Transforce, which has absorbed a couple of dozen smaller trucking firms during the last few years.<\/p>\n<p>According to O\u2019Connell, it\u2019s a winning formula.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cWe\u2019ve dramatically increased truck service and parts sales continue to grow,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost importantly to us, our&nbsp;reputation in the Montreal region is continuing to grow along with our sales.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mack trucks are instantly recognizable by the bulldog ornament that adorns most of their vehicles\u2019 hoods.
