{"id":7608,"date":"2026-09-24T19:47:28","date_gmt":"2026-09-24T19:47:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newscoverage.org\/?p=7608"},"modified":"2026-09-24T20:08:12","modified_gmt":"2026-09-24T20:08:12","slug":"newsbrief-24-9-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newscoverage.org\/index.php\/2026\/09\/24\/newsbrief-24-9-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"NewsBrief (24.9.2026)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>By Murray Sherriffs<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">=<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CAQ&#8217;s performance regarding health care received a lot of negative attention in last night&#8217;s Quebec party-leaders debate, with challenges centring on Christine Fr\u00e9chette repeating promises made and broken by former party leader Legault.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">=<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Liberal Leader Charles Milliard says that Quebecers feel \u201cbetrayed\u201d by the CAQ for failing to decrease emergency room wait times and failing to give all Quebecers access to a family doctor and promises to create a telehealth platform to allow people to see a health-care professional without an appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">=<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Parti Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois leader Pierre Saint-Paul Plamondon says that the CAQ has disrespected the intelligence of Quebecers and says that his party would set up CLSCs to treat minor emergencies and remove the pressure now seen in emergency rooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">=<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quebec Conservative Party Leader \u00c9ric Duhaime says that more family doctors are needed and hospital wait times must be reduced and that repeating prior promisesis not the way to go: that ongoing PQ and Liberal  health care promises have been broken for decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">=<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Qu\u00e9bec Solidaire is strongly opposed to private-public health care alleging that private practices steal doctors from the public sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">=<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Montreal business groups have challenged the province&#8217;s political parties over strict immigration policies that could hurt the Quebec\u2019s finances and its economy.
