A study out this morning<\/a> says that a small shift in a brain molecule might explain how Alzheimer\u2019s turns from an abnormal nerve connection into a condition affecting memory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The abnormal protein clumps\u2014amyloid plaques and tau tangles\u2014are the key drivers aof Alzheimer\u2019s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The clumps are a hallmark of a wider breakdown, where nerve cells become overactive and lose connections that result in supporting cells turning reactive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The study from the Institute of Basic Science in South Korea<\/a>, says that a receptor protein molecule\u2014ERBB4\u2014might be the missing link<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
