The federal Liberals have won all three byelections yesterday in Quebec and Ontario, giving Prime Minister’s Carney’s Liberals his majority government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Liberal candidate Tatiana Auguste is one of our newest MPs, taking the Terrebonne riding by hundreds of votes from the Bloc Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois, which won two months ago, when Canada’s Supreme Court cancelled her one-vote victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

=<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Danielle Martin, a doctor and McGill University graduate, has won the Ontario riding of University-Rosedale, taking 64% of the vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

=<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walmart has decided to close its Dorval location come July, bring to three the number of outlets that will close in Montreal this summer (C\u00f4te des Neiges and Pointe-aux-Trembles are the others).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

=<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Westjet is rejecting compensation demands from a family of five from Montreal who want thousands of dollars, citing the 16 hours of delays that members experienced in their efforts to get home following a spring break vacation in Cancun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The city of Montreal says that essential health and safety services will be maintained during the blue-collar workers’ strike which begins tomorrow and will last until Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transport Quebec will close Highway 25 to the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel and Highway 132 to accommodate major repair work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A two-decade long francisation program at C\u00e9gep de Saint-Laurent in Montreal will be shut down this week and the CSN is not happy, citing the loss of instructors as well as professional staff positions which will be lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It will be Montreal versus Tampa Bay in the NHL first round Atlantic division playoffs that begin Monday, following a win by the Sabres last night, who have clinched first place in the Atlantic Division. Home-ice advantage is still up in the air and will be decided as the teams have one one regular-season game each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
