More than 100 Chomedey residents and their children congregated at John F. Kennedy park on Elizabeth street, Sept. 14, for a Sunday afternoon of fun and fellowship. <\/p>\n

\u201cI have lived across from the park for almost 40 years,\u201d organizer Tzila Baum told The Suburban.<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cI remember when it was always full of parents and their children, whose laughter was such a pleasure to hear.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cOver the years, the community changed, and no one used the space, which is so beautiful,\u201d she said in an interview. \u201cSo we came up with an idea to gather neighbours to get to know one another and do things together to revive the park.\u201d <\/p>\n

Together with Anastasia Maziotis, she enlisted the city\u2019s enthusiastic support. <\/p>\n

\u201cLaval strives to offer its citizens a plasent environment which maximizes the use of public space,\u201d city official Philippe da Silva, who coordinates park activities, wrote in reply to approve Baum\u2019s request. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt was marvelous,\u201d Baum said. \u201cI was shocked by how many people came. Everyone brought food from around the world for an unimaginable pot luck. Chomedey McDonald\u2019s Randy Fryde, IGA Extra Pierre Michaud on Labelle and Lily Bakery also pitched in, and the city provided a sound system, tables and chairs.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cChomedey en forme sent an animator who organized wonderful activities with the children,\u201d she continued. \u201cShe had such a good time that she said she will return for all our activities.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cSo many people I didn\u2019t know showed up with their families,\u201d Baum smiled. \u201cThey expressed their appreciation for starting something like that and said that they want a reprise next year in which they are involved. Not just one event. Many.\u201d <\/p>\n
