\u201cWe received several 911 calls, starting at 2:27 a.m.,\u201d Const. Franco di Genova told The Suburban.<\/i> \u201cWhen we learned that a firearm was involved, every available unit converged on the scene.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cWhat seemed to have started with a verbal dispute ended up in a fight in the bar\u2019s parking lot,\u201d he said in an interview. \u201cFists were flying and the next thing you know, shots were fired. The victim was hit at least once in the upper body.\u201d <\/p>\n
Firefighters from the fire station across the street tried unsuccessfully to revive the victim. <\/p>\n
By 4:30 a.m., police brought a city bus to the scene at the corner of Principale and H\u00f4tel de Ville streets, where they sheltered about a dozen young men and women who had witnessed what happened. Officers took their written statements, while other investigators combed the scene for clues. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe four people who were apparently involved, including the victim, ranged in age from 30-35,\u201d Const. di Genova continued. \u201cThat evening, the suspect, 32, showed up at Laval Police headquarters with his lawyer.\u201d <\/p>\n
After investigators arrested him, they transported him to hospital, where doctors treated him for an unspecified illness before he returned for questioning the following morning. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe has not yet been charged,\u201d Const. di Genova explained. \u201cHe was released because investigators still want to review some witness statements to confirm certain details that remain unclear.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe murder was Laval\u2019s first in 2014,\u201d he said. \u201cIn 2009, we investigated seven murders; 2010 and 2011 saw three murders each; and there were five murders here in 2013.\u201d <\/p>\n

\nAn alert Sears\u2019 security official spotted a 50-year-old St. Laurent woman allegedly stealing two gold bracelets worth $2,700 at Carrefour Laval, Sept. 10. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe woman visited the jewelry counter at 3:39 p.m. and asked to see two gold bracelets,\u201d Const. di Genova reported. \u201cThe saleswoman complied and brought out the whole tray. While she served someone else for about a minute, the suspect took two other bracelets out of her own purse, put the fakes in the tray and left with the genuine bracelets.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cSears has security cameras and their official witnessed the whole act,\u201d he added. \u201cThe constables who wrote up the report discovered that she had previously been found guilty of 39 thefts since 1986.\u201d
