Laval residents who own property near the shoreline will soon learn how the city plans to modify flood zone restrictions that affect them. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis November, the city will issue new regulations to amend its zoning rules in order to institute new flood zones for 2014,\u201d Fran\u00e7ois Brochu told The Suburban<\/i> in an electronic mail reply. <\/p>\n

Brochu, who serves as spokesman for Mayor Marc Demers, added that the city intends to hold public consultations on its new flood zone plan at the beginning of December. <\/p>\n

That will be a full year since the city passed the current set of provincially imposed restrictions, Dec. 5, which upset waterfront residents. Discontent over the measures subsequently helped to tip the balance against Laval\u2019s two Parti qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois<\/i> MNAs during the April provincial election. <\/p>\n

The current rules hit property values hard and made the homes that they affect difficult to renovate, insure or sell. <\/p>\n
