Six men have pled guilty in Montreal to their roles in a grandparent-fraud scheme that saw thousands of dollars stolen from elderly people in the US. 32-year-old Montrealer Steven Petruzziello has been sentenced to house arrest for what he did in the gang. Gang leader, 32-year-old David Anthony of Laval often referred to the people working for him as \u2018my kids\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Quebec man who smuggled a pregnant woman from Canada into the United States, that ended with her drowning, has admitted to what he did, in a New York court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A wannabe for the mayor’s chair in Quebec City, Sam Hamad, says that a rival party, Respect Citoyens, offered him a position as the city\u2019s general manager if he abandoned his campaign, and that he wants its leader, St\u00e9phane Lachance, to withdraw from the race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It can lead to couples having a hard time repairing broken trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There can be a loss of trust by sarcastic digs, eye rolls, interrupting and belittling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Awareness is the first step in taking accountability for your words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some phrases can leave a partner feeling diminished and unloved, placing the whole relationship in trouble:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Phrases that humiliate your partner, name-calling, or speaking disparagingly (Examples: \u201cReally, second helpings?\u201d \u201cOh, he always does that.\u201d \u201cDon’t pay attention to him.\u201d)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Sarcasm and mocking tones intended as insults (Examples: \u201cGreat job on yelling at the kids.\u201d \u201cIs that what you’re wearing?\u201d \u201cYeah, like that’s worth bragging about.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Manipulative language that twists reality (Examples: \u201cIt didn’t happen that way.\u201d \u201cI never said that.\u201d \u201cYou understood it wrong.\u201d \u201cYou’re crazy if you really think that.\u201d)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Moralistic statements that insult, correct, criticize, demean (Examples: \u201cYou spoil him way too much, because your mother spoiled you.\u201d \u201cYou’re so selfish.\u201c \u201cThat’s a narcissistic thing to say.\u201d)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Blame shifting (Examples: \u201cI hate yelling, but you frustrate me so much.\u201d \u201cYou’re making me feel guilty\u201d \u201cMaybe if you tried harder, I wouldn’t have to step in.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. Blocking compassion by advice, interrogation, one-upping or correcting (Examples: \u2018How come you didn’t talk to me about this sooner?\u201d \u201cWhy don’t you just ignore her?\u201d \u201cI’ve done this a dozen times.\u201d \u201cIt’s not that complicated.\u201d)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Solutions?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De-escalate; go out for a walk, go into another room and engage in deep breathing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

…or my personal favorite, \u201cyou want to fight, ok take your clothes off, I’ll take off mine.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suddenly there’s nothing to fight about because you’re laughing too hard or you get busy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
