The seventh annual Arbor Day was held on Sept. 24. The event was hosted by Laval Health and Social Services Centre (CSSS) at the rear of the Cit\u00e9 de la sant\u00e9<\/i> superhospital. The main mission for CSSS is to be responsible for the health and well-being of the city\u2019s residents. <\/p>\n

The celebration raises awareness about the importance of living in a sustainable community with an emphasis on educating participants on the importance of the presence of trees in urban areas and promoting healthy lifestyles and sustainable development. <\/p>\n

Kiosks were set up to promote local vegetable produce vendors as well as several kiosks to show different green initiatives taken by the city. <\/p>\n

Laval Mayor, Marc Demers, the deputy chief of the CSSS de Laval planting, Sylvie Bourassa, vice-president of French Canadian Physicians, Dr. Marie-Fran\u00e7oise M\u00e9gie, and the godfather of Arbor Day, the cardiologist Dr. Fran\u00e7ois Reeves were all on hand to celebrate the commitment to an environmentally sound community.<\/p>\n

Every year the staff plants trees and shrubs. This year was no exception, 40 trees were planted at Cit\u00e9 de la sant\u00e9,<\/i> 20 at Rose de Lima residences and ten at Idola St. Jean Center. <\/p>\n

This event was spearheaded by Dr. Fran\u00e7ois Reeves, heart surgeon at Cit\u00e9 de la sant\u00e9 <\/i>and the Centre hospitalier de l’Universit\u00e9 de Montreal<\/i> (CHUM) in an effort to grow awareness to a green urban life and its health benefits.
