Laval\u2019s library service has decided to forgive users whose book, DVD and CD-ROM borrowings are overdue. <\/p>\n

During Quebec Public Library Week, Oct. 18-25, the libraries will absolve members who return these items from paying any late fees. <\/p>\n

The amnesty doesn\u2019t apply to damaged or lost items, nor to the replacement of errant library cards. <\/p>\n

The aim is to recover as many items as possible from the libraries\u2019 collections, as well as to renew its relationships with members who might have been avoiding visiting the library because of their delinquent account. <\/p>\n

In return, the libraries have asked the amnesty claimants to bring some non-perishable baby food to donate. The food that the libraries collect will be given to the Laval volunteer centre to distribute. All such donations will be welcomed \u2013 you don\u2019t have to have an overdue book to contribute. <\/p>\n

Laval spokeswoman Sophie Guilbault also told The Suburban<\/i> that the city\u2019s Multicultural Library at 1535 Chomedey boulevard in the city\u2019s eponymous district has organized an English-language book club. <\/p>\n

The book club, animated by Sasha Myers, met Sept. 17 and is slated to meet again this month on Oct. 15. The next book club is scheduled for Nov. 19. <\/p>\n
