With the NDP tanking and some polls showing the Conservatives taking the lead in Quebec when this week’s edition of the newspaper went to press, the Conservatives\u2019 Quebec lieutenant urged Laval voters to hop on the bandwagon, during a visit to Laval, last week.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m certain that we will be [re]elected,\u201d predicted cabinet minister Denis Lebel, \u201cand Laval needs a seat at the decision table in Ottawa.\u201d<\/p>\n

Laval hasn\u2019t had a seat at the federal cabinet table since 1996, under the Conservatives. Lebel doesn\u2019t foresee any other party being able to deliver one, and described Conservative candidate Roland Dick (pronounced \u2018deeke\u2019), who is running in Laval les \u00celes riding, as \u201ca man for the job.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI intend to work for all Laval residents,\u201d Dick promised.<\/p>\n

\u201cLaval is important,\u201d Lebel said of Quebec\u2019s third-largest city. \u201cI\u2019ve met with city councilors and the mayor.\u201d<\/p>\n

He cited the Conservatives\u2019 cordial relations with Quebec City and suggested that electing his party is the best way to keep that relationship harmonious.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhich government in Ottawa has helped the Parti Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois the most over the years?\u201d he asked rhetorically. \u201cThe answer would be the Liberals.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSince we\u2019ve been there, there have been no fights,\u201d Lebel said. \u201cWe had many dealings with the [former] sovereignist government of Pauline Marois. Have you seen many big fights? No. We respect the jurisdiction of provincial governments across the country, including Quebec.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re working together to build a future for our population, not to squabble with one another,\u201d Lebel continued. \u201cThat\u2019s how we have always managed the country since there was a Conservative government and that\u2019s what we will continue to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m from Lac St. Jean,\u201d he concluded. \u201cFor me to be a Quebecer and a Canadian are one in the same. [The Conservative party] is fielding its strongest slate of candidates ever. We need those men and women to continue to represent Quebecers\u2019 values in Ottawa.\u201d<\/p>\n
