High number of\u00a0voters undecided<\/em><\/h1>\n

A Suburban poll of Mount Royal federal riding constituents shows Conservative candidate Robert Libman leading Liberal candidate Anthony Housefather and NDP candidate Mario Jacinto Rimbao amongst decided voters. But the poll also revealed a tremendously high percentage of undecided voters in the two areas of the riding.<\/p>\n

The Suburban<\/em> visited the\u00a0shopping area of Town of Mount Royal, the Van Horne Shopping Centre and the surrounding area on Victoria Avenue, where we spoke to people representing a wide mix of ethnic groups; and Quartier Cavendish in C\u00f4te St. Luc.<\/p>\n

Of all those spoken to by The Suburban, 37 percent supported Libman, 24 per cent supported Housefather, 9 per cent supported Rimbao, and one per cent each supported the Bloc Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois and Green Party. But fully 28 per cent were undecided.<\/p>\n

The highest amount of undecided voters were in Town of Mount Royal (42 per cent) and C\u00f4te des Neiges (33 per cent). The lowest were in C\u00f4te St. Luc and Hampstead (9 per cent), where the vast majority of respondents were intending to vote Conservative. The Suburban also found in this area that Harper was specifically named as the recipient of their support.<\/p>\n

Here is a sampling of responses from those spoken to by The Suburban.<\/em><\/p>\n

In TMR:<\/p>\n

\u201cHarper knows how to balance the budget,\u201d said a Conservative supporter. \u201cHe got us out of the terrible mess the Liberals got us into.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHarper makes more sense than Mulcair or Trudeau,\u201d said another Harper supporter. \u201cThe Conservatives did a good job through bad economic times.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI listened to him talk,\u201d said a Housefather supporter. \u201cHe didn\u2019t falter, presented himself well, and his arguments made sense.\u201d<\/p>\n

The undecided voters in TMR either have\u00a0not followed the issues to this point, or are waiting until election day to fully evaluate the parties\u2019 policies.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

One francophone voter in TMR remains torn between the NDP and Bloc, saying she is conflicted between NDP policies and the Bloc\u2019s opposition to the wearing of the face-covering niqabs while taking the citizenship oath.<\/p>\n

\u2018The niqab is a real mask,\u201d the voter said.<\/p>\n

In C\u00f4te des Neiges:<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s give young Trudeau a chance,\u201d said a Liberal supporter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no reason to change,\u201d said a Harper supporter.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrudeau all the way,\u201d said a Liberal supporter.<\/p>\n

A Bloc supporter said she was influenced by the niqab issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe in socialism,\u201d said an NDP supporter.<\/p>\n

Many in this area cannot vote because they are not yet citizens\u2014they were not counted in our numbers.<\/p>\n

In C\u00f4te St. Luc\/Hampstead:<\/p>\n

\u201cI love him!\u201d said a Harper supporter.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t imagine Trudeau dealing with someone like {Russian leader] Vladimir Putin,\u201d said another Harper supporter. \u201cMy issues include Israel, Harper\u2019s experience, the economy and the tax free savings account.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf Housefather was going Conservative, I\u2019d vote for him, but I don\u2019t want Trudeau,\u201d said another Harper supporter.<\/p>\n

\u201cI like the Conservatives, but I prefer Housefather,\u201d said a Housefather supporter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
