Pointe Claire has turned the tables on road safety this summer. Instead of issuing tickets for driving infractions, its law enforcement officials have taken to the streets to recognize motorists who drive safely.<\/p>\n

Last week, city Insp. R\u00e9al Carreno and communication intern Olivier Cauchon teamed up with police Const. Fran\u00e7ois Lachapelle to flag down cars on Donegani Avenue that were driving at or\u00a0below the speed limit.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

It\u2019s all part of a summer\u00a0safety blitz that Pointe Claire launched in May.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe goal of the campaign is to reward citizens for good driving practice,\u201d Pointe Claire spokeswoman Marie-Pier Paquette-S\u00e9guin told The Suburban.<\/em> \u201cWe want to give as many tickets as possible. We also want to show citizens our presence even if no tickets are issued, to encourage slower driving.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also have some police officers patrolling on bicycle throughout\u00a0Pointe Claire\u00a0helping us,\u201d she said in an interview. \u201cThey promote bicycle safety and show pedestrians the right place to cross the\u00a0street.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe campaign has been\u00a0ongoing since May 20,\u201d added Paquette-S\u00e9guin.<\/p>\n
