City Councillor Alain Lecompte is disappointed that the city hasn\u2019t approved his proposal to build a free winter toboggan run in his Or\u00e9e des Bois district.<\/p>\n

Lecompte said that he was surprised to discover that the urban planning department had approved the construction of two homes which he had wanted the\u00a0city to purchase to develop the park.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cIt would not have been too expensive [to acquire that land],\u201d he told The Suburban.<\/em> \u201c$1.5\u00a0million is not a lot for a project like that. It\u2019s not much in terms of the overall Laval budget.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are no [recreational] facilities like that in Laval west of Highway 15,\u201d Lecompte said in an interview. \u201cCitizens are complaining that the only place [in Laval] to enjoy that sort of activity is the Centre de la nature.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cThis project would serve families not just from Or\u00e9e des Bois but also from Marc-Aur\u00e8le Fortin, St. Martin, Chomedey, Ste. Doroth\u00e9e and Laval les \u00eeles,\u201d he suggested.<\/p>\n

Not dead yet<\/strong><\/p>\n

Robert-Charles Longpr\u00e9, a senior official in Mayor Marc Demers\u2019 office acknowledged that\u00a0Lecompte had pitched his proposal to the city, but that it still needs more work if it is to pass muster.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t really viable in its current form, but that doesn\u2019t mean that the project is dead,\u201d he told The Suburban<\/em> in an interview.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Councillor Lecompte] is welcome to develop the proposal further and present it again, if he wants,\u201d Longpr\u00e9 suggested. \u201cWe will not turn down any project that will serve Laval residents well. We won\u2019t let down the people who live in those districts.\u201d<\/p>\n
