{"id":5952,"date":"2015-06-10T16:23:57","date_gmt":"2015-06-10T16:23:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newscoverage.org\/?p=5952"},"modified":"2015-06-10T16:23:57","modified_gmt":"2015-06-10T16:23:57","slug":"city-ups-stake-in-biotech-museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newscoverage.org\/index.php\/2015\/06\/10\/city-ups-stake-in-biotech-museum\/","title":{"rendered":"City ups stake in biotech museum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>By Robert Frank<\/b><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thesuburban.com\">www.thesuburban.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Laval intends to make a multimillion-dollar investment in the Armand Frappier Museum, which attracts more than 50,000 visitors a year to the city.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re looking at that option, because we want to make it more appealing,\u201d executive committee vice-chairman David De Cotis told\u00a0<i>The Suburban.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe city will be investing in the construction of a new facility adjacent to the Cosmodome,\u201d he confirmed in an interview, \u201cdue to the fact that the provincial government, which said that it would invest, has not yet come through with funding of its own.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>De Cotis declined to specify the size of the\u00a0pending subsidy, which was not included in the city\u2019s 2015 budget, and will therefore have to be presented to city council for ratification.<\/p>\n<p>However, three days after the provincial election a year ago, museum CEO Guylaine Archambault told reporters that she wanted the province to kick in $3.6 million of the $5 million cost of the new premises, which she said was slated to open in December 2015.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Mayor Marc Demers committed the city to contribute $1 million toward the project.
