Town presents day long activities<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The Baie d\u2019Urfe Public Works building played host to the first edition of Environment Day in educating the public on improving methods of cleaner surroundings. <\/p>\n

Brian Manning, councillor of parks and recreation, and Emmanuelle Jobidon, environmental coordinator, organized the daylong event from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. <\/p>\n

Seven booths, represented by La Table de Quartier Sud,<\/i> Morgan Arboretum, Le Nichoir,<\/i> Bird Protection Quebec, Sierra Club Quebec, Green Coalition, and Fritz Farm Youth Centre, were on hand in answering citizen questions. <\/p>\n

Additional activities included tree distribution to the first 100 citizens, information sessions from Jobidon, Richard Gregson, and Robert Brown on the following three topics, Emerald Ash Borer, gardening and wildlife, and composting in the wintertime. <\/p>\n

The Fritz farm youth gardening association raised awareness in handling an 8,000 square foot plot. Up to 25 students from Dorset and St. Joseph Henrico schools volunteered their time in cultivating the area. Seventy-five percent of the crops were distributed to local charities, West Island Mission, On Rock Community, St. Columba Church and the remaining 25 percent was sold to the local Provigo.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Town of Baie D\u2019Urfe was pleased with the resident turnout and participation for our first Environment Day. Approximately 75 trees were given to citizens along with compost, mulch and various environmental door prizes,\u201d Manning told The Suburban.<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cI was pleased with the associations present, and the citizens who came with questions and left with answers,\u201d said Jobidon. <\/p>\n
