\nThanks to help from Robert Po\u00ebti, Joseph Pugliese has made contamination on the Cavalier School yard an election issue in the Marguerite Bourgeoys District 11 school board election in LaSalle.
\n

\nBoth current commissioner Joanne Bonnici, who is running for \u00c9quipe Lamarche-Venne,<\/i> and Gladys Negret, who is running for \u00c9quipe Martel,<\/i> have assured Pugliese that they\u2019re watching the situation closely to make sure that students and staff at the school aren\u2019t exposed to toxins.

\nPugliese has been asking questions about why the school yard has appeared on Quebec\u2019s list of contaminated lands since September 2013. Until his member of provincial parliament verified what\u2019s going on, however, the school board refused to even confirm that there is contamination on their property. 
\n

\nAccording to an e-mail from Po\u00ebti\u2019s office to Pugliese, a leak of petroleum products took place when an underground reservoir was moved on June 28, 1994. The Ministry of Environment asked for tests to confirm the extent of the contamination but no response was provided by the school. 
\n

\nThe Environment Minister requested follow-up testing last June. A secondary drilling to discover the extent of the contamination took place in September. 
\n

\nMarguerite Bourgeoys should have received the results last Monday. 
\n
