NOVA and West Island Cancer Wellness Centre to benefit<\/i><\/b>

Beaurepaire Village was Halloween havoc Saturday, Oct. 25, as it played host to the third annual five km ghost run spectacular, in supporting Nova West Island, (NOVA) and West Island Cancer Wellness Center (WICWC). <\/p>\n

Over 50 participants took to the neighboring streets in pirate and bumblebee outfits, ghosts, and ghoul costumes, trick or treating with numerous merchants, dancing to the music, enjoying a BBQ, and face painting as part of the landscape. <\/p>\n

\u201cSaturday\u2019s great weather meant that lots of families were at the event this year. Adults, children and race volunteers came by to get their faces painted before the race, and then took part in the village festivities,\u201d said Nancy Gervais, owner of Doodlebug face painting.<\/p>\n

NOVA West Island is a not-for-profit, charitable, volunteer-driven and community-based healthcare organization, whose mission is to respond to identified unmet community needs, through the development and delivery of high quality, innovative health care services. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a wonderful day, as it brought in new people, while meeting up with friends who volunteered at the centre,\u201d said Debbie Magwood, founder of WICWC. <\/p>\n

Celebrating their fifth anniversary, WICWC used this medium in launching their new book\u2014A Little Book about Cancer, written by 18-year-old Kasia Whitelaw, who volunteered two summers at WICWC. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis beautiful place provided comfort, energy, and motivation that cancer patients need to fight their incredibly difficult battle against their disease. I chose to focus on children because I can relate, as I was six years old when my mom\u2019s cancer came back. Today, she is cured, healthy, and my best friend,\u201d said Whitelaw. <\/p>\n

One hundred percent of the sales of the book will go directly to WICWC, as it is a place where cancer patients and their families find their smiles again. <\/p>\n

WICWC exists to empower people who are experiencing cancer by providing them with compassionate support and comprehensive information for mind, body, and spirit. <\/p>\n

The Beaurepaire Village Association\u2019s mandate is to invite the population to discover the welcome of its merchants and the quality of their services along Beaconsfield Boulevard.<\/p>\n

At press time, the amount raised was yet to be determined. <\/p>\n
