Earlier this year Laval confirmed its renewal to the program Les Fleurons du Qu\u00e9bec<\/i> (FQ) for the next three years and invited citizens to beautify their environment in an effort to gain a higher level of classification.<\/p>\n

\nThe hard work paid off on Oct. 30, at the Marriot Ch\u00e2teau Champlain hotel in Montreal, when St. Rose municipal councillor responsible for environmental affairs, Virginie Dufour accepted four out of five jewels for environmental beautification. <\/p>\n

The judges visited at least sixty percent of the territory and evaluated the city on horticultural and landscaping gardens that were visible to the public. The evaluation criteria were impacted by cleanliness, maintenance, a variety of horticultural elements and the visual state of the municipal landscape. <\/p>\n

Laval has received a three jewel certification in both 2006 and 2010. <\/p>\n

The spirit of the horticultural classification by FQ is a formal recognition of the efforts of the whole community and for the long-term a more attractive, healthier and greener environment for the city. <\/p>\n

Launched in 2006, the program was an immediate success and has grown steadily ever since; today it includes 382 municipalities in all regions of the province and reaches over 54 percent of Quebecers.
