During the last city council meeting, Nov. 3, Marc Demers announced the process that Laval will use to set its flood zones.<\/p>\n

In the audience were several people who represented 700 residents whose homes will continue to lie within the official flood plain, if changes aren\u2019t made.<\/p>\n

They waited four hours to hear about more meetings. Councillors will deposit the new law during a special council meeting, Nov. 20. A public consultation will follow, Dec. 15. The city will approve the new law on Dec. 18.<\/p>\n

Many left furious<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cWe question the consultative aspect of the consultation meeting being held on Dec. 15, given the delay of only three days before the new law gets final ratification on Dec. 18,\u201d says their blog, Comit\u00e9 des citoyens de Laval-ouest<\/a>.<\/i><\/p>\n

After the the city ratifies the new law, Quebec\u2019s environment minister will have another two months to make comments or ask for changes.<\/p>\n

If the province accepts Laval\u2019s new version of the flood zone, it could go into effect as soon as March.<\/p>\n
