{"id":494,"date":"2014-11-19T18:14:00","date_gmt":"2014-11-19T18:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rf.podcastfixit.com\/index.php\/2014\/11\/19\/citizens-voice-vision-for-city\/"},"modified":"2015-06-01T19:40:46","modified_gmt":"2015-06-01T19:40:46","slug":"citizens-voice-vision-for-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newscoverage.org\/index.php\/2014\/11\/19\/citizens-voice-vision-for-city\/","title":{"rendered":"Citizens voice vision for city"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;\">By Robert Frank<\/b><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thesuburban.com\/\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;\">www.thesuburban.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>More than 500 Laval residents shared their views for their city\u2019s future, during a series of six public consultation sessions, which wrapped up last week on Nov. 12. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe asked everyone what they would like Laval to be like in 2035,\u201d Councillor Paolo Galati told <i>The Suburban.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>In 2015, Laval plans to table a new strategic vision that it has dubbed <i>Rethink Laval.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe intend to use what citizens have told us to develop the plan for the city,\u201d vowed Galati, who moderated the discussion at <i>Th\u00e9\u00e2tre Marcelin Champagnat<\/i> in his home district of St. Vincent du Paul, Nov.11.\u201cOur&nbsp;approach is to rely on citizen participation and input from experts. We want them to share their ideas. The objective is to see the people of Laval reclaim their environment.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Galati said that citizens talked about park development, bicycle paths, woodlands, the revitalization of existing neigbourhoods and proposed a number of projects. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cA consulting firm is now taking all of those recommendations and incorporating them into a coherent strategic vision,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe elected officials went through the same process with blue- and white-collar municipal staff here in Laval,\u201d Galati added. \u201cFirst we did it internally, then we went out to consult all Laval citizens. It\u2019s a commitment to democratic consultation and participation that hitherto hadn\u2019t existed in Laval.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore than 100 people showed up at the consultation that I moderated. They were really excited to be able to partake in shaping the vision for Laval.
