Residents of Verdun donated more items during the eleventh annual Renaissance Fall Challenge than people living in 20 other boroughs and municipalities in the Greater Montreal area. <\/p>\n

More than a million pounds of goods were collected during the contest duration, almost 17 per cent more than that collected during the fall challenge last year. <\/p>\n

Between Sept. 21-Oct. 18, Verdunites brought 4,008 different items, including clothes, toys, tools and other useful items, to the Fripe-Prix Renaissance Store located at 4261 Wellington Street.<\/p>\n

Mayor Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Parenteau visited the store last Monday morning at 11 a.m. to pick up an honorary plate for the win. Renaissance CEO Pierre Legault presented the award while store manager Matthew Henri looked on. <\/p>\n

C\u00f4te des Neiges NDG came in second overall, with 3,487 items. Laval came in third, with 3,258 donations. <\/p>\n

Equally impressive results were achieved by Dorval, which turned in 97.87 donations for every thousand residents. Dorval has achieved this impressive result every year since the contest was set up.<\/p>\n

\nBeaconsfield followed, with 73.4 donations per thousand residents. St. Lambert came in third, with 59.44 donations per thousand residents.
