\u201cThey voted 54 percent in favour of accepting the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de transport de Laval\u2019s offer,\u201d STL chairman David de Cotis told The Suburban.<\/i> \u201cThat\u2019s great news for STL and even better news for the bus drivers. They gained a two percent salary increase each year for the next five years.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cIn addition, the premium that bus drivers receive for working weekends will rise from $2 hour to $3\/hour,\u201d said de Cotis, who doubles as vice-chairman of the City of Laval\u2019s powerful executive committee.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a great way to thank the bus drivers for providing such excellent service to Laval commuters,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n
STL still needs to reach a labour agreement with two other transit unions. <\/p>\n
\u201cNegotiations to reach an agreement with the unions that represent STL maintenance workers and its 33 office employees are in the works,\u201d de Cotis reported.<\/p>\n
As reported in last week\u2019s edition of The <\/i>Suburban,<\/i> the bus drivers\u2019 decision as to whether or not to accept STL\u2019s contract offer briefly disrupted service on Sunday morning, Nov. 16, when they booked off work to vote.<\/p>\n
The ballot coincided with the first significant snowfall of the season to hit Laval.<\/p>\n
STL hired taxis to take up some of the slack and STL supervisors patrolled Laval transit routes for stranded commuters until service returned to normal, later that day.
