In an effort to support and promote awareness of men\u2019s health the city of Laval passed a resolution declaring Nov. 19, men\u2019s health awareness day.<\/p>\n

Several Laval elected officials wore bow ties in support of Procure, an organization that is devoted solely to the awareness, knowledge and support of prostate cancer.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a men and a member of the Committee on Health and Social Services, it is important to support the cause of the prostate cancer,\u201d Sainte Rose MNA Jean Habel told The Suburban, <\/i>\u201cmore than 23,000 men will be diagnosed in 2014. In a lifetime, it’s 1 out of 8 men who will be affected by this cancer, so it’s really essential to support further research.\u201d<\/p>\n

This year, Procure has launched the first of a series of signature bow ties. The bow tie\u2014a classic, yet elegant piece of clothing for any man\u2019s wardrobe\u2014is being positioned as the new emblem of the cause. Sustained by a digital campaign and supported by a host of ambassadors during the month of November, proceeds of all sales will go toward research and awareness-building for prostate cancer.<\/p>\n

\u201cI purchase a bow tie for the cause and as a bonus my wife loves bow ties!\u201d Abord \u00e0 Plouffe Councilor Vasilios Karidogiannis told The Suburban<\/i> in an interview.<\/p>\n

Prostate cancer is the third leading cause of death from cancer in men in Canada and an estimated 4,000 men will die from prostate cancer in 2014, accounting for 10 per cent of all cancer deaths in men.<\/p>\n
