\nHarness Montreal\u2019s abundant creative talent, add large dollops of natural resource services, fold in world-class research universities, stir in lots of fun et voil\u00e0<\/i>\u2014Montreal\u2019s economic mojo is back, according to Michel Leblanc.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe’re more optimistic than we\u2019ve been in 20 years,\u201d enthused the Metropolitan Montreal Board of Trade chief operating officer. \u201cRight now the rush is on to be the first to announce, start and deliver commercial tower and mixed real estate projects.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n

\n\u201cVery high value-added industries have replaced rust-out in Montreal\u2019s legacy manufacturing sector,\u201d the economist and expert policy analyst explained. \u201cThe aerospace industry here is very strong, and we\u2019re reaping from investment in labs and university research, as the biopharmaceutical industry restructures and outsources the development of new molecules.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBesides the Cirque du soleil,<\/i> during the past decade we\u2019ve developed a movie production industry that\u2019s the envy of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFashion design, new materials and textile logistics have supplanted Montreal\u2019s venerable garment industry, plus Quebec is about to open its mineral treasure trove in the Far North,\u201d Leblanc added. \u201cThat will spur demand for engineering, legal and financial services here in Montreal, just as it did in Australia.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re investing billions in infrastructure\u2014such as roads, transit and hospitals\u2014and expect to play an increasingly important role as a North American powerhouse,\u201d he concluded. \u201cYou can feel the confidence out there.\u201d
