Police officers from Station 16 Verdun\/Nuns\u2019 Island held a consultation with local community groups last month, on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 8 a.m.-11:30 a.m. <\/p>\n

Station Chief Pierre Liboiron, Lieutenant Jacinthe Boucher, social community agents Nathalie Grenier, Glenn Henden, Isabelle Dallaire and Christophe Van Eyck were all there, as were several of the other police officers from the station. <\/p>\n

Also there were Verdun borough director Pierre Winner and many borough councillors. Community groups whose representatives attended included Manna Food Bank, La Maison du R\u00e9confort,<\/i> Action Prevention Verdun and many others.<\/p>\n

\n
\u201cIn 2013, we received 34 calls per day and 12,256 calls for the year,\u201d said Liboiron, when describing the challenges the station faces. \u201cWe have 77 police officers, two civil employees, four cadets and 32 school crossing guards.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThe goals we have for the year include increasing foot and bike patrols, informing businesses, today\u2019s consultation, creating a databank of community resources, holding 40 conferences in schools, participating in the table de concertation, seniors\u2019 awareness session and intergenerational projects.\u201d <\/p>\n

According to Liboiron, there are five key intersections that are causing traffic in Verdun: Galt and Wellington, Champlain and de L\u2019Eglise, Champlain and Woodland, Wellington and Gilbert Dub\u00e9, and \u00cele de S\u0153urs and Chemin Golf.<\/p>\n

Among the issues brought up during discussions were: isolation at the metro stations, particularly at night; speed on borough streets; graffiti; and night time loitering and drug deals next to the aquaduct and on the waterfront.
