Starting this fall 73,518 Laval residents will be cut from home mail delivery announced Canada Post last week. All boroughs of \u00cele J\u00e9sus will be affected, with the exception of Duvernay, Saint Vincent de Paul and St. Francis, which depend on another service depot for their delivery. <\/p>\n

The transition of community mail box service will involve the addresses where the postal code begins with H7G, H7H, H7K, H7L, H7M, H7N, H7P, H7R, H7S, H7T, H7V, H7W, H7X and H7Y.<\/p>\n

The Suburban<\/i> reported last month that Montreal\u2019s Commission sur le d\u00e9veloppement social et la diversit\u00e9 montr\u00e9alaise (CDSDM) will hold public meetings<\/a> on Tuesday, December 9, 2014, and January 19, 20 and 21, 2015, on the impact of Canada Post\u2019s decision to eliminate home mail delivery in urban areas for the population of Montreal.<\/p>\n

The Suburban<\/i> sought comments from Senator Larry Smith on the issue earlier this fall, who explained that only two years ago, \u201cCanada Post delivered one billion fewer letters than it did in 2006.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cCanadians are choosing to communicate in ways other than sending letters,\u201d said Smith. \u201cDue to the lack of demand, mail volumes have dropped almost 25 per cent since 2008 and continue to fall.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n
Canadians are also shopping online in greater numbers, and ordering more items, Canada Post sees community mailboxes as a secure and convenient way to receive their parcels.<\/div>\n
\nIn a report by Canada Post in 2012, the Conference Board of Canada projected that Canada Post could record financial losses of roughly $1 billion a year by 2020.
