Chomedey MNA Guy Ouellette paid a visit to Centre du Sablon, Dec. 11, to present a provincial government cheque for $61,078.<\/p>\n

The money will help to support the Chomedey non-profit organization, which is one of Laval\u2019s largest community centres.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re very lucky that the Quebec government has been a great supporter for many years,\u201d Centre du Sablon chairman Brian Tracey told The Suburban. \u201cBesides permitting us to continue to run community activities, the subsidies help us to keep our activities priced at a level which permits people to participate who otherwise couldn\u2019t afford to afford them.\u201d<\/p>\n

The facility supports a wide range of activities for its nearly 3,000 members, serving age groups that range from daycare to seniors programs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe offer fitness, running, basketball, a pool and all sorts of other training,\u201d Tracey said in an interview. \u201cWe also have an amazing summer program. In the woods behind Centre du Sablon, we have set up a trek-fitness system, with different exercise stations.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCentre du Sablon brings together people of all ages and backgrounds, and contributing to their physical and psychological development and social well-being,\u201d Ouellette said. \u201cIt is an important part of Chomedey and an asset for Laval.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

The subsidy was funded by the Education Ministry, as part of its program to support local recreational centres.
