After last week’s release by the Montreal planning and development commission’s report noting 53 recommendations for the city of Montreal’s future, Lachine Mayor Claude Dauphin weighed in with his agreement with the plan, especially the committee’s suggestion to extend the Green metro line from Angrignon through Lasalle, Lachine and stopping at Dorval with a metro station at Pierre Elliott Trudeau airport.<\/p>\n

Another suggestion Dauphin endorses is the AMT’s proposal for a dedicated line of tracks in order to create the Train De L’Ouest in order to help commuters leave their cars at home for a viable and reliable public transportation system. <\/p>\n

“I am certain that, like me, Lachine residents will be in favour of the metro’s extension,” explained Dauphin. “All citizens of the West Island will be better served with a dedicated rail line for the Vaudreuil-Hudson line.”<\/p>\n

This past November, councilor Jean-Francois Cloutier and Michel S\u00e9guin, director of urban planning for the borough, attended the commission’s public and presented a brief on behalf of Lachine. <\/p>\n

Dauphin noted that the new proposed measures, should they go through, would ultimately help the environment by reducing the number of cars on the road as more citizens would have better “accesibility to public transportation.”<\/p>\n
