{"id":38,"date":"2015-05-13T18:46:00","date_gmt":"2015-05-13T18:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rf.podcastfixit.com\/index.php\/2015\/05\/13\/city-sleuths-spill-source\/"},"modified":"2015-06-01T19:40:28","modified_gmt":"2015-06-01T19:40:28","slug":"city-sleuths-spill-source","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newscoverage.org\/index.php\/2015\/05\/13\/city-sleuths-spill-source\/","title":{"rendered":"City sleuths spill source"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><i>Oil slick in Lac St. Louis<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>By Robert Frank<\/b><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thesuburban.com\/\">www.thesuburban.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Pointe Claire has turned over to Montreal authorities its investigation of an April 13 oil slick on Lac St. Louis, Mayor Morris Trudeau told citizens during its city council meeting, May 5.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cAs soon as we were informed of the situation, our teams were sent to the site to remove the substance by pumping and taking samples,\u201d Trudeau read aloud from a prepared statement prior to question period.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency response crews deployed floating oil booms and pump trucks to remove as much oil as possible, after citizens reported that they smelled an unusual odor emanating from the shore of Valois Bay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTest results have confirmed that the substance was a hydrocarbon, either diesel or heating oil,\u201d he reported. \u201cThe investigation is now in the hands of Montreal\u2019s <i>Service de contr\u00f4le de la r\u00e9gie industriel<\/i> to determine the source of the substance.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Trudeau reassured West Island residents that they have nothing to worry about in terms of the quality of the drinking water supplied by the treatment plant in Pointe Claire, which supplies fresh water to a number of West Island communities.<\/p>\n<p>The intake for Pointe Claire\u2019s water works is west of Valois Bay, upstream from the spill site.
